MC to impose Rs 5,500 and Rs 10,500 fines for littering

Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) has taken a decision to impose Rs 5,500 and Rs 10,500 fines for littering in the city.

The MC notified the new charges on Saturday, a step towards strengthening the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (clean India campaign).

From Monday, the violators will have to pay Rs 5,500 for littering in residential areas and Rs10,500 in commercial areas.

As per MC officers, from now on people will have to dispose of garbage of their respective areas at the designated places.

Marshals will be visiting each sector or area to catch violators.

“People mostly throw garbage in the night hours, they will be monitored closely and penalized,” an official told reporter.

As per reports, Chandigarh generates around 450 metric tone of garbage on a daily basis.

The garbage is being collected from commercial, residential and industrial areas.
