The Estate Department of the Municipal Corporation (MC) accompanied by police raided the premises of the Golden Temple in Amritsar and removed illegal vends and encroachments from the ghee mandi, Jallianwala Bagh and the Hall Bazaar area.

The MC officials acted on the complaint of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) that illegal vends and encroachments on the roads leading to Golden Temple cause inconvenience to visitors commuting on Free Bus Service from the railway station to the shrine.

During the raid, the police seized the goods of shopkeepers who put these outside the shops and removed vendors, who install vends in narrow streets, an Inspector of the estate wing told the mediapersons.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will spend Rs 254 crore in this fiscal on the Golden Temple. The money will be spent on beautifying the shrine, paying salaries of staff, maintain its grandeur, serving langar, etc.
