Watering of lawns and washing cars, other vehicles and courtyards in the morning hours will be banned from April 5 to June 30.

In order to check the misuse of the water during the summer, the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) has also prohibited the installing tullu/pressure pumps direct on the water supply lines.

Residents have also been asked to ensure that no leakage of water takes place on their property in any manner, including overflow from terrace tanks and coolers.

Mohali residents will face action if they are found wasting water. A notice would be issued on first violation and the second time,

a fine of Rs 2,000 will be imposed. If the order is violated for the third time the water supply will be disconnected and a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed.

The MC has also cleared the proposal to augment the water supply. The project will be implemented under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation at a cost of about Rs 60 crore.

Under the new project 24X7 water supply would be given to Sectors 70 and 71.

Nine locations have been identified to set up underground storage reservoirs (UGSRs). The water collected in these reservoirs will be pumped directly into the network in order to have improved and sustained pressure so that water could reach all consumers, even at the tail-end of the network.

The work is expected to begin in three or four months and should be finished before the next summer.
