A forest department team on Thursday rescued a three and a half year old leopard from Krishna Colony, a residential area near Old Railway road in Palwal, Haryana.

The big cat was spotted in the densely-populated area at around 7 am. It took around five hours for a 20-member team of forest and wildlife department, equipped with traps, tranquillizers, rescue vehicles to rescue the big cat.

Police have cordoned the area to insure the safety of residents.

As per reports, a forest guard got injuries on his back and head in the process, and had to be rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi.Officials believe the leopard to belong to Shivalik Hills.

According to the forest department, the leopard might have come from the hills on a truck, as the nearby habitats — Aravalis and the Yamuna — are some 25km and 15km away respectively.

Located about 60km from Gurgaon, Krishna Colony and adjoining areas in Palwal have a population of over 15,000.

This is the third instance of a leopard straying into a residential area in Gurugram in the past few months.
