As the national capital remains on lockdown for the fith day, to tackle the spread of  COVID-19, thousands of migrant workers are stuck in Delhi with no job, no pay and no way to get back home.

With public transport being shut people are walking hundreds of kilometers on foot as they have no choice but to return to their homes.  Videos and pictures of them, carrying their luggage and children surfaced across social media. Thousands are  waiting to take buses to UP and the Bihar border.

The central government has asked the highway authorities and toll operators to help out the migrants, to consider providing food, water or any kind of support.

As per media reports, near the East Delhi-Ghaziabad border, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has since last night started to arrange buses.

“About 100 buses of Delhi government and around 200 buses of Uttar Pradesh government are carrying people trying to walk from Delhi. Nevertheless, I appeal to everyone to follow the lockdown. This is the solution to keep the corona effect under control. By stepping out there is a danger of corona," Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia posted on Twitter.

Arrangements are being made for  1,000 buses to take the migrant workers to their respective hometowns, meals are being provided in over 500 locations and night shelters have been opened for those who are stranded.

Bihar government has allocated ₹100 crore for labourers who are stuck in different states.

As per March 28, there are currently 775 positive corona virus cases and 20 deaths have been reported in the country..
