Alcohol vendors shut in Haryana

The Haryana government has ordered closure of all liquor vends across the state, from Thursday midnight.
"Strict actions would be taken against those not following orders," a senior state government official told reporters.

The nationwide lockdown was announced from the midnight of March 24 with an exception been made for essential services only. With restaurants, beer bars and pubs been closed, operating liquor vends in Gurugram, Rohtak, Faridabad, and Sonepat were raising many questions.

Meanwhile, Haryana Deputy Chief minister Dushyant Chautala in his interview on March 26, was explaining why liquor shops were functioning in the state amid nationwide lockdown. He said if they will close the liquor shops then people who are regular consumers of alcohol will run towards rehabs and hospitals. 'We don't want to trouble our medical staff. If the decision of closing down these shops will be taken in today's meeting, we will implement it', said Chautala.

Amid the nationwide lockdown in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic liquor was continued been sold in Kerala and Punjab by classifying beverages of all types as “essential” items.
