Qazigund encounter: 1 soldier and 2 militants involved in Amarnath Yatra killed

One soldier and two Lashker-e-Taiba militants were killed in Bounigam area of Qazigund, South Kashmir on Tuesday.

As per reports, the encounter between militants and the security forces broke out after the LeT militants attacked an army patrol on Monday afternoon.

The militants opened fire on an Army convoy, on its way to Srinagar, at Qazigund on Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
The area was cordoned off by security forces in haunt for the militants. Locals also converged near the encounter site and tried to break the cordon by throwing stones on the force personnel, who in retaliated fired tear gas shells and live ammunition to disperse the protestors.

The encounter ended at 2am on Tuesday, the police said.

Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway remained suspended.  Train service between the Kashmir Valley and Bannihal town in Jammu region was also disrupted. Internet services were also suspended in south Kashmir.

As per police, one militant had managed to flee but was later arrested from a maternity hospital of Anantnag district.

As per reports, two militants have been identified as Pakistani nationals. One of them was divisional commander of LeT.

The group  was believed to be responsible for the attack on Amarnath pilgrims in July this year. Eight pilgrims were killed and 19 others injured on July 10 this year.
