J&K minister escapes grenade attack in south Kashmir’s Tral

Two civilians were killed and 30 others were injured in south Kashmir’s Tral town on Thursday.

Among the dead are an 85-year-old man and a 22-year-old student Pinti Kaur. As many as 30 people were injured, including eight CRPF men and four Jammu and Kashmir policemen. The injured have been moved to a hospital in Srinagar.

As per reports, militants tried to attack Minister’s for Public Works and senior PDP leader Naeem Akhter convoy.

The minister escaped unhurt in the attack, but his driver was very critically injured and was airlifted to Srinagar. 

“We were travelling through the (Tral) bazaar when militants hurled a grenade. I heard a loud sound and saw the vehicle behind us getting hit,” the minister told reporters.

This is the first time in recent years that a minister has been targeted by militants.

The attack comes as the ruling party has been touring the south Kashmir districts.
