Raksha Bandhan is a time for family members to come together, celebrate and feast on traditional dishes. The common tradition associated with the occasion is the sister tying rakhi  (sacred thread) on her brother’s hand and the brother on his part also gifts his beloved sister something precious in return. The festival is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu luni-solar calendar month of Shravana, which typically falls in Gregorian calendar month of August.
