Lipstick under my Burkha to be released in India

The controversial Indian film Lipstick Under My Burkha will be released on 21 July 2017 in India.

The film directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha was initially banned by the Central Board of Film Certification stating that "The story is lady oriented, their fantasy above life. There are contagious [sic] sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society".

The first trailer of film was released on 14 October 2016.

Set in the small town India, Lipstick Under My Burkha chronicles the secret lives of four women in search of their freedom.

The film has notably earned eleven international film festival awards prior to its official release.  Lipstick under my Burkha premiered at the Tokyo and Mumbai Film Festivals, where it won the Spirit of Asia Prize and the Oxfam Award for Best Film on Gender Equality. 

The film stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak, Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles along with Sushant Singh, Vikrant Massey, Shashank Arora, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi and Jagat Singh Solanki in supportive roles.
