Swachhta Rankings-2017: Post Graduate Government College for Girls ranked six; Panjab University seventh

Shri Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) on Thursday announced the 'Swachhta' Ranking 2017 for Higher Education Institutes.

GB Pant University of Agriculture and Tecnology in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand and Madurai Kamraj University in Madurai, Tamil Nadu state topped the rankings.

Meanwhile, the Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 11, Chandigarh, has been ranked sixth in the Swachhta Rankings-2017 of higher educational institutions in the category of government institutions. Panjab University (PU) was placed at the seventh rank in the same category.

The Principal of the PGGCG-11, Dr Anita Kaushal, received the award in New Delhi on Thursday. Kaushal said the college could have scored a higher rank but for the heavy rain on the day of inspection by a team of the Central Government.The event was held at the Banquet hall in Hotel Ashok in New Delhi.

As many as 3500 institutes participated in the ranking, out of which 174 were shortlisted. From among the 174 shortlisted institutes, 25 have been selected for the top rankings. 

The rankings have been done on the basis of multiple categories - cleanliness standards, cleaning systems, waste disposal methods, greenery in the institute campus, and campus accessibility.
