Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a FIR (First Information Report) against a French Journalist Comiti Paul Edward for violating visa norms to make a documentary without permission.

As per reports, Mr Edward was making a documentary film on separatists and "pellet victims". He was detained on Sunday evening from Srinagar's Kothibagh area, the officer told reporters.

"Mr Edward has a passport and a business visa for India, valid up to December 22, 2018," the senior officer said.

A business visa does not permit anyone to make a documentary film on political or security related issues.

A case has been registered under the Passport Act and the French embassy has been informed about the arrest.
