A policeman was killed and six others were injured after militants ambushed a police bus at Zewan crossing near Pantha Chowk on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Friday evening, officials said.
As per reports, the attack took place at 7.30 pm when a police bus ferrying policemen of JKAP 9 battalion was on its way from Bemina to Armed Police Complex (APC) at Zewan.
“When the bus reached near Zewan crossing, it came under heavy firing that remained on for at least 10 minutes,” the witness told to reporters.“They have been taken to a hospital. The condition of one of them is critical,” a police officer said.
Militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba has claimed responsibility for the ambush.
The area was cordoned and a hunt for the assailants is launched.
