Bandipora encounter: 3 soldiers dead, 1 militant killed

At least 3 Indian soldiers died and 1 unidentified militant was killed in a new encounter between militants and security forces in Kashmir's Bandipora district early on Tuesday morning.

As many as seven other people - six security personnel and a civilian – sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital. The injured soldiers were later airlifted to Army hospital in Srinagar.

As per reports, the police and the army had launched a joint search operation in Hajin area of the district after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area.

The incident comes two days after two soldiers were killed in a 10-hour long at Frisal village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district.

On Sunday, two soldiers were martyred and four militants were shot down. The killed militants belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba. 

Two civilians were also killed during and after the encounter, which led to massive protests in the area.
