Tata Trusts to donate Rs 500 crore to fight the coronavirus pandemic

Oe of the oldest grant bestowing foundations in India, Tata Trusts will donate Rs 500 crore to fight the coronavirus pandemic raging around the world.

This was announced by Ratan Tata, the Chairman of Tata Trusts and Chairman Emeritus Tata Sons on Saturday.

Calling COVID-19 crisis as 'one of the toughest challenges that human race will face', the 82-year-old R Tata said in his tweet, that hte amount would be used for personal protective equipment for the medical personnel on the frontline, respiratory systems for treating increasing cases, testing kits to increase per capita testing, setting up modular treatment facilities for infected patients, and knowledge management and training of health workers plus the general public.

As per media reports, the Tata Group will also pay full payments to their temporary workers and daily wage earners, for March and April, working across their offices and production sites in India. The company said they would also pay its workers even if they fail to report for work due to precautionary measures.

The Tata Trusts work inter alia across health, energy, rural upliftment, urban poverty alleviation and education.
